How can I add my information to my immersion topographic profile for the proper development cross section? Geology
I have a basic topographic map, need to transfer data from my immersion in the map to build a comprehensive and accurate. I dip in degrees and width of outcrop of the map so you can use trigonometry to obtain the actual thickness. But somehow its just not working out. Do I use my protractor to immerse Only the beds of the same angles of dip on the map (28 degrees). I hope someone has any idea what I'm about because as far as concerns the geology I'm getting very stressed. I could use my OS map to find the highest mountain and throw myself on him! Thanks
You can only use the calculated R / R / true cross section that the line of the cross section is perpendicular to the direction of the strike. I think I understand the information you have and if this explaination does not help or if I understand correctly, then e-mail me. I'ma technical assistance for structural geology. 1. First take paper graph (hopefully ruled metric) and map the topography along the cross section line. 2. Below are the lines of attack for contacts of the beds of the lines connecting the contact evevation like to crops. For example, if you see in you a map of a bunk bed one linestone slate bed are two points of a contour line (ie 600 m) in case the contact limestone outcrops of slate and put a line through it. That is a line of attack for that contact. It sounds that have come so far and has made an estimate of true dip making a right triangle two lines of attack for a contact. 3. Then, taking the paper chart back to the line of the cross section and mark everywhere strike lines cross that line. One line of attack through 600 meters, which shows that the contact of the beds is 600 m where it crosses the line of cross section. When put two or more points in cross-section of the same contact, you can draw a line through them and that is how that contact appears in depth in section cross. If you cross section line perpendicular to the strike lines found, then the inclination that drew in section C, is the inclination true. You can calculate the right triangle to verify. If not perpendicular, then their fall shows apparent cross section. Remember that only can put the contacts of the beds in its cross section. You show the default real beds for the drawing of the upper and lower contact of a bed. The bed is just the space in the middle. Hope this helps!
